Let’s Go Hoos

Starting off last weekend early, some of the M.S. in Accounting students decided to enjoy the beautiful Friday afternoon weather cheering on our #1 ranked men’s tennis team play against #7 Wake Forest at Snyder Courts in what decided the regular season ACC championship. Thanks to the presence of UVA’s pep band, hundreds of students and a number of members of the community brought energy more similar to a basketball crowd than typical tennis fans. It certainly translated on the court from the beginning, as UVA’s #2 doubles team turned a 3-2 deficit into a 6-3 win. Then, with all eyes on court one, UVA’s #1 doubles team of Ryan Shane and Luca Corinteli held serve to send the match to a tiebreak at 6-6, before sending the crowd into a frenzy with an ace to win the tiebreak 7-5 and score UVA the doubles point.

What Makes Our Program Different?

Throughout several of our previous blogs, we’ve talked about how great Charlottesville is and how much we love our program. We often provide weekly status updates in both our blogs and Instagram pictures, by highlighting M.S. in Accounting (MSA) special events, classes, students, and professors. As you can see, we have an exciting program, in and out of the classroom. Our students are dedicated to working beyond their potential in school and maximizing their experience of life in Charlottesville at the same time. Sounds like a good deal, right? But what exactly is it that makes us different than other programs? How does our program stand out?

Professor Profile: Kieran O’Connor

oconnorOne of the things that makes UVA’s M.S. in Accounting Program unique is the number of non-traditional tax and audit courses it offers. This semester, nearly every student in the program is enrolled in Behavioral Decision Making and Negotiation with Professor Kieran O’Connor and it has quickly become one of our favorite classes. During the class, we practice our negotiation skills through simulations in order to better understand how we make decisions and how psychological phenomena impact our daily lives. Like all of our professors, Professor O’Connor is able to use his unique life experiences to make the lectures really come to life.

Cheering on the Hoos

Sold out game this year at JPJ

As you might be able to tell from pictures of a sold out John Paul Jones (JPJ) arena (where UVA was undefeated this year!) and our experience at ESPN’s College GameDay, UVA basketball unites the whole campus here in Charlottesville. Despite the amount of CPA studying and schoolwork due, we couldn’t miss out on the fun of March Madness.
