Meet your 2016-17 M.S. in Accounting bloggers!

image1Welcome to the M.S. in Accounting (MSA) Blog! We’re excited to share our experiences over the next nine months with you. We’ll do our best to give you the inside scoop on the program, as well as provide useful information regarding the application process and recruiting at McIntire.

Make sure to follow us @MSAccountingUVA on Instagram to see what we’ve been up to.

Here’s a little more about each of us…

Hometown: Hawkinsville, GA

Undergrad: LaGrange College

Track: Financial Reporting & Assurance

Future Plans: Sign with a Big Four accounting firm.

Fun Fact: Last January I traveled to Ecuador and conducted research on the nation’s floriculture industry.

Hey, and welcome to the blog. My name is Wade Fegley, and I’m looking forward to sharing my experiences in the program over the next two semesters. I was raised in Hawkinsville, Georgia, an extremely small farm town with around 4,500 residents. In 2012, I enrolled in LaGrange College to continue playing tennis on the collegiate level while pursuing my B.S. in Accountancy.

As an undergraduate I was an active member of the Gamma Nu chapter of Pi Kappa Phi fraternity, a member of the college tennis team, student government, Delta Mu Delta, and a volunteer for many local organizations. I hope to get involved in Charlottesville this year.

In the few weeks I have been on Grounds, I have enjoyed meeting a diverse group of students. I have adapted fairly quickly to a university much larger than my 1,000 student undergraduate institution. I will also be serving as a student ambassador for the MSA program for the next two terms. Follow along this year to gain a unique student perspective of the program and insight on the recruiting and admissions process.

Hometown: Richmond, VA

Undergrad: University of Georgia

Track: Financial Reporting & Assurance

Future Plans: Ernst and Young — Atlanta, GA

Fun Fact: I am a huge college baseball fan and was in Omaha for the College World Series when UVA was in the finals (unfortunately it was the year they lost – but don’t worry they came back and won the next year!)

My name is Corey Parham, and I’m so excited to share my experiences with you about my upcoming year here at the University of Virginia in the M.S. in Accounting Program!

Although a lot of my time is spent studying, I’d much rather be playing outside with my dog, Brooks. I have become quite outdoorsy and love hiking local trails in Charlottesville! I grew up in Richmond, and since UVA is so close it’s great being able to run home for a day and spend time with my family. Recently, I have become the Chair of the GCOM Council which offers opportunities to coordinate with all the programs in the McIntire School of Commerce. I love hanging out with my fellow MSA students at happy hours and weekly lunches in the grad lounge. Two of my favorite parts of the MSA program here at UVA, is how everyone is from different undergrad colleges and how quickly we were able to all mesh together and become so close.

I’ll try my best to share my experiences with you as honestly as possible throughout this next year! I’ve only been here for a few weeks and I already feel at home. I can’t wait to see what the next year brings!

Greg with his parents

Hometown: North Kingstown, Rhode Island

Undergrad: College of Charleston

Track: Tax Consulting

Future Plans: Currently Undecided. Hope to land a job at a Big Four accounting firm in DC, Boston, or NYC.

Fun Fact: I appeared on second season of Southern Charm on Bravo.

Welcome to the M.S Accounting blog for the 2016-2017 school year! My names Greg Boland and I’m psyched to be writing about my experiences here at McIntire School of Commerce.

Aside from debits and credits, I love staying active with basketball, soccer, and surfing. Many of my classmates in the MSA program share these interests, which has made the first few weeks filled with various games of basketball and soccer. Before UVA, I attended the College of Charleston in Charleston, SC, where I majored in Accounting. I really enjoyed my four years at College of Charleston and made many lasting friendships. I decided to do a winter internship my senior year with a CPA firm in Charleston. This opportunity allowed me to experience what the atmosphere is like during the peak time of year.

I’m excited to continue to explore Charlottesville, meet new people, and find a great career! I hope you check in throughout the year for photos and updates of what it’s like to be in the MSA program and a member of the UVA community.
